pointless to clean up its own sewage

The same story is true all along the banks of the river and each municipality say it would be pointless to clean up its own sewage if their neighbour up the river did not clean up their sewage.

Beaches I would make if I was King

Work in progress.
New beaches I would make if I was King.

The importance of a beach is that it connects people to the real world once again. The river water and the shoreline are not artificial man made objects.
Humans conscious and unconscious minds both experience the water and the feel of the sand underfoot .

These beaches would go a long way to improving mental health/ easing depression in the population of Montreal.

1) Lot 203
The land is the future site of a new bridge to ile bizard . Near the  former Crystal beach (lot 201).
Located North of the snow dump on Gouin Blvd, the land is currently owned by the provincial government. The old name for it is Lot 203.
The government owns it because in 100 years from now, ( if man still exists) they will build a bridge to Il e Bizard there. They plan on building a North-South boulevard on the land to the bridge and for 6,000 new suburb houses.
Right now it should be a beach. The river current is next to non-existent there, the water is relatively clean. A beautiful location. It needs some sand though.

2) Park Paquin or RDP-200

New beach at Park Paquin. The water is relatively clean.
I would put stairs down to the shoreline and put a bunch of sand on the shoreline. Place toilets to keep the water clean. A problem is parking, there is no parking for cars.

One bag of sand (opened and emptied) on the shoreline.

One bag of sand on the shoreline, need hundreds more to make a beach area.

3) L’anse-à-l’orme
The beach reopens after a 50 year closure

4) All the RDP sites that pass water testing.
RDP 75 cap st jacq, the free dock area. This area has good potential to be another beach. Though there is old Creosote soaked railway ties in the shoreline and cement that would need to be removed.

RDP 80 ?
RDP 95 ?
RDP 100 ?

Collège Gérald-Godin there is a large bay in front of the small island called Park College. The shoreline would need a bit of cleaning. Some trees would have to be cut at the entrance to the water, and sand would have to be placed.

RDP 110 Parc Antoine-Faucon, Probably too much river current in this location which is just west of the bridge to Ile Bizard.

RDP 120 Parc du Portage, a very small park attached to the location, so no parking. East of the Ile Bizard bridge. A historical unsightly sewage pipe in the shoreline , if I remember correctly.
RDP 150 ?
RDP 160 Parc de Versailles. Good potential. Close to Park des Arbres. Deep in the suburbs though. In the spring water comes out of the ground on the shoreline indicating an old buried stream. A source of potential clean water that a beach would need.

RDP 180 Parc Rapides du Cheval Blanc. Not a beach at the rapids due to risk of drowning, but further west there used to be a ferry crossing. The current is very slight in this location and I have seen people swimming laps along the shoreline. There was a sandy beach for a time but the plants have taken over from all the ( farm run off) fertilizer in the river water.

Eastern Rapides du Cheval blanc is a possibility, but under a thin layer of sand is clay. Clay may be unsuitable for walking on.

I'ld end at RDP 180 because I know sewage is deposited on the shoreline after this point. I would guess it comes from Laval's sewage outlets.

  Roxboro Beach RDP 195
Water has too much fertilizer in it. An unknown green goo, neutrally buoyant, is visible in the water from the shoreline. Plants are taking over the shoreline.
